
James F. Walden, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2012 after a courageous 20 year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at Lawndale Baptist Church. Family visitation will begin at 1 pm with the service at 2 pm.
Jim was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 15, 1933 to James Franklin Walden and Joy Chambers Walden. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, served in the United States Army and worked for Air Conditioning Corporation for 36 years. In 1983 he received his master’s degree in Business Administration from Wake Forest University. Jim loved the mountains, music, his Yellow Jackets, his family and many friends, and his church family at Lawndale Baptist Church, where he served for 46 years.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother, Tom. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice; son Jim Walden and daughter-in-law Karen of Huntington Beach, CA; daughter Joy and son-in-law Jeff Stone of Mooresville, NC; sister Betty Gay Blanc of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Will, Sam and Sara Stone of Mooresville, NC; sisters-in-law Evelyn Walden of Chattanooga, TN, Winona Green of Greensboro, NC and Faye Jones of Franklin, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Jimmy.
Jim requested that memorial contributions be made to Lawndale Baptist Church, 3505 Lawndale Dr. Greensboro, NC 27408 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405, in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to thank the staff at Friends Home West Health Center for the loving way they cared for Jim during the past two years.
