Jean Page Barnett, 97, passed away peacefully in the early morning of 06-26-26, comforted by the love of her family. Born on August 12, 1928, in Greensboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of George and Ethel Page and a proud member of America's Greatest Generation.
Jean's life spanned nearly a century of extraordinary history. Growing up during the Great Depression, she witnessed the challenges and triumphs of World War II, the Cold War, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Throughout these remarkable times, she lived with resilience, quiet strength, and an unwavering sense of duty to her country.
In the 1950s, Jean served the United States by working for the Atomic Energy Commission during the Atomic bomb testing in Nevada. It was there that she met her future husband James Barnett, whom she married a few years later. In the early 1960s, she continued her public service in the White House Office building during the Eisenhower administration where she interacted with many of history’s greatest political legends in the course of her career.
After her years in Washington, D.C., Jean devoted herself to raising her children, Mark and Marianne, in Princeton, New Jersey. Following the family's move to Texas in the early 1970s, she returned to the workforce with ExxonMobil, where she worked in the Controllers Group for 30 years before retiring at the age of 74.
While Jean was dedicated to every position she held, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment were her family. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and steadfast friend whose kindness, work ethic, and quiet grace left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She lived her life with dignity and was fiercely dedicated to the success and well-being of her children and grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her son, Mark Barnett of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Marianne Barnett-Hayes of Sag Harbor, New York; and her beloved grandchildren, Sean, Christian, Mindy, and Augustus.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Hillsdale Primitive Baptist Church, 1616 Scalesville Road, Summerfield, North Carolina.
Jean's long life was one of service, perseverance, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
