Jean’s life and faith will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10th at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Greensboro, located at 2432 Gate City Blvd. Officiating will be Dr. Jack Benzenhafer of Immanuel Baptist Church. Visitation will be held prior to her service at the church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Mrs. Helm is survived by her children, Barbara Helm of Charlotte, Bill and Deborah Helm of Winston-Salem, Carolyn and Skip Nix of Greensboro, and David and Sandra Helm of Gastonia. Along with her children, Jean is also survived by her sister, Sybil Huffman of Burlington and a sister-in-law, Jean Walker of Shelby. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Roy Jennings Helm Sr. and eldest son, Roy Jennings Helm Jr.
A native of Gaston County, Jean was born March 8, 1930 to the late Vera Shelly Walker and William Pinkney Walker. Jean was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and dear friend to many. As a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, she faithfully served The Lord through many years of teaching in the children’s department. She enjoyed working in the garden, playing a good game of cards, as well as floral arranging. Along with heading up the flower committee at church, she also designed floral arrangements for special occasions to help celebrate family and friends. While serving as a sales associate at J.C. Penney and Belk department stores, she was dedicated to the service of her customers, many of which returned regularly to purchase furniture from her.
The family would like to thank The Lord for allowing us so many wonderful years with our mother and grandmother. In every special memory, her smile and laughter will not be forgotten. Her last hours before the stroke were spent doing exactly what she loved, spending time laughing with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at a family Easter party. Her love and life blessed many. Psalm 100.
