

Jeritta Rakestraw DeHart, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2026, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by the love of her family, who will forever cherish the kindness, strength, warmth, and zest for life she brought into their lives.
Born on May 9, 1943, in Rockingham County, North Carolina to the late William and Mildred Rakestraw. Jeritta lived a life centered on hard work, devotion to family, and meaningful friendships. She dedicated 23 years to her work as a manager at McDonald's, followed by many years owning a successful home daycare. Both of which, she was respected not only for her dedication and work ethic, but also for the compassion and encouragement she showed everyone around her.
Above all else, Jeritta treasured her family. She found joy in gathering loved ones together, celebrating life's moments both big and small, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and comfort. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family were the pride and joy of her life.
She was also a loyal and treasured friend whose generosity, wisdom, and caring spirit touched many people over the years. Whether offering a listening ear, sharing a meal, or simply making others feel welcome. She had a true gift of gab while making people feel loved and valued.
Jeritta is survived by her children, Kay Sparrow, Todd DeHart and his wife Debbie, and Barbara Abdalqader and her husband Bilal. Her grandchildren, Dawn Guffey and her husband David, Cody DeHart, April Clark and her husband Peter, Jonathan DeHart, and Sabrina DeHart. Also, by her great-grandchildren, Audrey and Charlotte Guffey, and Casey and Kinsley Clark. As well as her sister Peggy Rakestraw Boyte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Raymond DeHart, two of her sons-in-law, Jerry Sparrow, and Wilbur Boyte, and special friend Glenn Edward Johnson.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, strength, and feisty spirit will remain with her family and friends always.
A graveside funeral will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2 o'clock, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 3350 NC Hwy, 65, Reidsville, North Carolina, 27320 followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
