Jerry Richard Bennett went home to meet Jesus face to face on April 16, 2018. Jerry was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962-1970 receiving a Commendation Medal for meritorious service. While stationed in northern Thailand, Jerry maintained and trained controllers in the use of the system that was instrumental in the support of U.S. Troops by providing precision guidance bombing missions on the Ho Chi Min Trail, disrupting the supply lines to the enemy. After his service in the Air Force, Jerry began working with the Federal Aviation Administration until he retired in 2012. In total, Jerry served his Country 48 plus years. Jerry never met a stranger, was always kind, and lived to help and serve others. He was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and Tarheel basketball, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Verda Bennett, brother Dale Bennett, and grandson Greyson Isley. Jerry is and will be greatly missed by his surviving family--wife Sandra Lee Bennett, sons Jeffrey Bennett (Patricia), Scott Bennett (Julie), son/grandson Matt Isley (Kailey), step-daughter Sheri Nester (Tony), brothers Robert Bennett (Elizabeth) and Thomas Bennett (Shirley), sister-in-law Norma Bennett, grandchildren: Andrew (Daysha), Gabriel, Allie, Aidan, Celia [Bennett], Chris, Joseph, Michael [Harrington], great grandson Jackson, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at Hanes Lineberry, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. The family respectfully requests privacy and no visitors at the home.
