A private service will be held.
A family man, dear friend and proud veteran of the US Air Force, Jerry was loved and respected by those who knew him.
Jerry was a people person who made everyone feel comfortable. Having “never met a stranger”, Jerry was quick to strike up a conversation - especially when he saw an opportunity to help or encourage. He was ready to laugh and bring out the humor in others. He lived his life with a simple joy, never judging anyone.
An engineer of all things, Jerry had a beautiful curiosity of how everything works. He excelled at problem-solving. This is why he enjoyed being hands-on in his property development and management business. It is also why he was a graduate of the NC State University engineering program.
Jerry enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his family. He appreciated nature.
Devoted to his family, friends and living life straight and right, Jerry truly modeled the best qualities in humanity – patience, humility and unconditional love. He will continue to be with us in our daily thoughts and prayers.
Son of Herman Hilliard and Rosabelle Fields Hilliard, Jerry was born September 14, 1942 in Greensboro, NC.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Hilliard, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ann Hilliard; son, Rick Hilliard (Blair) of Greensboro; daughters, Paula McMillan (Zach) of Summerfield and Cheryl Habrat (Dan) of Wilmington; sister, Gene Lasley of TN and brother, Larry Hilliard of Greensboro; four grandchildren: Halle, Haven, Zahn and Hylan; nephews: Bobby and Todd; nieces: Tracy, Leslie, Sherry, Sally and Michelle.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Jerry’s name be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of the Greater Carolinas, 3101 Industrial Drive, Ste. 210, Raleigh, NC 27609.
