

Jesse was the eldest of eleven children of Ernest Roy and Cora Mae Yates Jenkins. He was born on April 26, 1926 in Forsyth County, NC. He served his country in the US Army during WW II serving in Central Europe and Germany. Following his military service, he returned home and started Jenkins Home Building and continued until his retirement. Jesse was married to his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth Jenkins who preceded him in death. He was a member of Good Sheppard Church in Greensboro, the Gideon’s, Disable American Veterans and the VFW. He went on many missions with his church to Africa and South America. Jesse was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Jesse lived his life as a testimony of his character and was an inspiration to his family and friends, “Greatest man we ever knew.” He will be deeply missed by all.
Those surviving are his children: Sylvia Woodard and husband Tom of Greensboro, NC, Judy Newnam and husband Dan of Wilson, NC, Linda Greeson and husband Gerald , Diane Cox, Ronnie Jenkins and wife Jackie, all of Greensboro, NC and Teresa Hohn and husband Von of Jamestown, NC; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 11th, 3:00 p.m. at CrossPoint Baptist Church at 1806 Merritt Drive with Dr. Adrian Harris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Burial with full military rites and horse drawn caisson will be held on Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Guilford Memorial Park.
