He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beatrice Levan, and his brother, Robert “Donnie” Levan.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 67 years, Martha “Ann” Levan; his son, Jimmy Levan Jr. of Bonita, Texas; his daughter, Tammy Tew of Surf City, North Carolina; his sister, Elizabeth Pierce; and his brother, Richard “Ricky” Levan. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christy Franklin, Brandon Levan, Crystal Levan, Kendall Tew, and Makenna Tew, and three great-grandchildren.
Jimmy retired after 43 years as a lead machinist with Dixie Machine Shop and later owned and operated his own machine shop for 10 years.
Jimmy attended Primitive Baptist churches throughout his life. He was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend who never met a stranger. Known in the community as the neighborhood handyman, Jimmy was always willing to help others and fix most anything. He genuinely enjoyed talking with people and took the time to listen. Whether speaking with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, he had a way of making people feel valued, heard, and welcome.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling. He especially enjoyed sharing stories from his life and often filled conversations with humor, wisdom, and lessons learned from his experiences.
During his illness, Jimmy was deeply grateful for the many friends, family, and neighbors who visited, called, and surrounded him with love and encouragement. Our family was humbled by the outpouring of love and support, which reflected the kind of person he was and the impact he had on those around him. We are especially thankful for the countless prayers offered on his behalf by loved ones and friends. Those prayers brought comfort, strength, and peace to Jimmy and to our entire family throughout this journey.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
