Jo Burns Warner, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 6, 2018 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. Jo resided in Guilford County her entire life. She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, James Brantley and Ethel Olivia Edmondson Warner and her twin sister, Joan Warner Shepherd. She is survived by a nephew, Wallace Edward Shepherd, Jr. who was her constant caregiver.
Jo was employed 34 years as a secretary at Troop D Headquarters, State Highway Patrol, Greensboro, N.C. She worked for seven Troop Commanders, beginning with Captain Arthur Welch and ending with Captain Jethro Wallace. She felt honored to have worked for all of these men and especially for Lieutenant Walton Stone. Captain Arthur W. Welch and Lieutenant Walton Stone were graduates of the original 1929 Highway Patrol class of cadets. She also had much love and respect for her longtime friend and co-worker, Virginia Wrenn Carter, who was among the earlier Highway Patrol secretaries. Jo loved all her co-workers and everyone loved her. She had a special feeling in her heart for the troopers on the road.
Jo expressed a desire to extend special thanks to the Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital to include all the doctors, staff, lab technicians, radiologists and valet parkers who helped her to get in and out of the hospital. She especially wanted to thank her Care Team Providers; Patrick Hung, Robert Murray, Steven Gross, Doctors Firas N. Shadad, Jay Ganji, her primary care doctor, James Kim and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. She also wanted to thank her friend and co-worker of many years, Hazeleen Forbis, who was a source of comfort during her illness.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Jo’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Tom Latimer, Senior Pastor of Jamestown United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until service time.
