Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel. Family visitation will be held prior to the service; at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
JoAnn was born in Rockingham County to the late Joel and Bessie Corns Sheppard. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James Melvin Alley; children, Patsy Edwards (Andy), Jamie Alley (Anne), Pamela Taylor, Sandy Lybrand (Mark), Jeff Alley (Juana) and Todd Alley; sixteen grandchildren Jesse, Jake, Jennifer, Crystal, Ross, Brady, Josh, Zack, Alex, Tanner, Austin, Courtney, Will, Nicholas, Chris and Jeff Jr and great grandchildren, Katie, James, Lilly, Luke, Coleman, Starla, Daniella, Rossi, Jaxson, Lorcan, Brenley and Rhett and Eleanor. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Jackie Sheppard and brother-in-law Bobby Alley and his wife Carolyn and many nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted wife, mother and granny. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her giving spirit.
JoAnn and her husband resided in Summerfield and enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends. They were active for many years at Brightwood Baptist Church. She was dedicated to serving others, she drove a school bus and was involved in her children’s sports and activities. She worked many years for Jefferson Pilot and also was a bookkeeper for the family business. She had a passion for cooking, quilt making, sewing and spending time at the beach.
Specials thanks to the staff at Guilford House and the Hospice staff for the care given to JoAnn while she was there.
