John Bruce Chamberlin was born July 25, 1928 in Shinglehouse, PA to John Wesley and Helen Failing Chamberlin and passed away January 23, 2021 at Blumenthal’s Nursing Home in Greensboro. Graveside services with military honors will be at 3 PM, Friday, January 29 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Bruce was a devoted husband to Ruth Henry Chamberlin who predeceased him in death on January 21, 2021. They were married June 2, 1963 at Magnolia Street Baptist Church in Greensboro NC where they were members.
Bruce had a strong love for his nation and was an American Patriot and Hero. Whenever called upon he was ready to leave the comforts of civilian life to meet the needs of his beloved country. He served in all five branches of the military and saw combat duty in the Korean and Vietnam Wars receiving numerous medals and ribbons. Bruce was also a public servant to the residents of Guilford County for 36 years working for the Greensboro Police Department and then the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department.
With an exterior somewhat hardened by the training and discipline instilled in the military, on the inside Bruce was a loving and caring husband to the true love in his life; his dear wife Ruth. Bruce always put her first and despite his own health issues in his later years, he fought to remain by her side until her passing. As with any true love story, it was only fitting that Bruce joined her in heaven only two days later to be reunited with her and their savior, Jesus Christ.
Bruce is survived by their godson, Yancey Wesson of Huntersville, NC and his wife Pamela, and son Alex.
