John Bernard Ford, 58, passed away on Feb. 28 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 15, 1960, he was the son of the late Robert Charles Ford and Elizabeth Linson Ford. John grew up in Greensboro and Grays Chapel, N.C. where he attended St. Pius X School and graduated from Eastern Randolph High School in 1978. He also attended Western Carolina University.
John worked in a variety of occupations through the years including restaurant, lawn maintenance, and general warehouse/quality control work, including at Replacements Ltd. and Liberty Hardware.
John was devoted to his family, especially his Mother, and his numerous, lifelong and new friends. Among his many friends, the Korb and King families and Mrs. Gladys Everett and the Everett family held a special place in his heart. He was always quick with a smile, a joke, and a helping hand and will be remembered by many for his cheerful willingness to help others. John dearly loved the beach and all things “nautical” and Irish. His frequent trips to the Carolina and Florida beaches, a trip to Ireland in 1978, and trips to San Francisco were highlights in his life.
Surviving John are his brothers, Thomas L. Ford and Michael C. Ford and his sisters, Katherine Levanti (Thomas) and Martha Ford (Jeffrey Schwamm). He also leaves behind nieces Vee Rickards, Jennifer L. Henschel (Harald), and Eleanor F. Schwamm (Charles Thomas), nephew Daniel C. Levanti (Katia), great nephew and niece Vincent and Sophia Henschel, and many cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Robert I. Ford and Jude A. Ford.
