John "Papa John" Allen Reid Sr.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, 3:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

John was born March 14, 1936 in Detroit, MI, the son of John Andrew and Elizabeth Johnston Reid.

John was a commissioned artist most of his career and was also a real estate agent later in his life. He was very athletic in his younger years including track, football and basketball. He later took up the game of golf and was hooked. John was a Mason and loved to paint. He enjoyed a good scotch with a cigar but most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed but will forever remain in our hearts and remembered through all of the wonderful paintings he left for us to enjoy.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wives, Virginia Thorburn and Betty Reid; his partner in life, Joan Tims, and his siblings, Grace Draper, Lloyd Reid and Helen Currie.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Mark Reid (Monica) of Pleasant Garden, John Reid Jr. (Rie Michelle) and Trace Reid, all of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Abby Reid, Alisha Forest, Lauren McLaughlin (John), John Reid III “Jay”(Olivia), Jackson Reid, Clint Hankins (Shelley) and Logan Hankins; great grandchildren, Madison, Keegan, Braden, Devan, Ethan, Lily, Juliet and Ella Rose.
