Johnnie Sue Bryant

May 23, 1946August 3, 2019

Johnnie Sappenfield Bryant passed away and went to be with her Creator on August 3, 2019 at the age of 73. She died peacefully at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in Jamestown after wonderful support by their dedicated staff. Johnnie was born on May 23, 1946 to John and Mary Emma Sappenfield in Winston-Salem and lived a long and productive life until Parkinson’s disease began to take its toll on her, a battle that she bravely fought for 8 years. She graduated from R J Reynolds High School in 1964 and received an associate’s degree from Elon University in 1966. Johnnie spent 31 years working at Guilford Technical Community College and retired in 2011. She was active in her community and was a charter member of the Jamestown Presbyterian Church, served on several community service organizations in the Jamestown area, and was active in support of Parkinson’s support groups. She loved to travel, play Bridge, watch athletic contests (especially baseball), and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was a kind, giving person and was loved not only by her family, but by her many friends that gravitated to her positive outgoing presence. Indeed she was loved and will be missed, but love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation. That depth of love will remain in joyful memories. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mike Bryant; daughter Amy Templeton (and Richard Tilyard); daughter Lori Burbank (and husband Todd Burbank); and grandkids Colby Conklin, Jackson Burbank, and Campbell Burbank. Memorial gifts may be made to Pennybyrn at Maryfield. Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is assisting the Bryant family. Online condolences may be shared at www.haneslineberryfhsedgefield.com.

Many fond memories of Johnnie as we worked together at Guilford Technical Community College. Johnnie was very outgoing and rarely missed speaking to you if she saw you. A very dedicated and committed person to her job and the college. I was so sorry to learn of her passing and wish I could have been at the service to support the family and the many friends she made over the years at the college. My condolences to the family. Time will heal the grief, but time will also strengthen the memories of the one you loved.

Johnnie was such a beautiful woman inside and out and I only knew her for the last 5 months. She always had a smile no matter how she felt. She loved, loved, loved her husband!!! She asked me to sing his favorite hymn for Father’s Day and I am so glad that I was able to!😀😭 I am honored to have known her and cared for her! She will be missed! My prayers and condolences for the family .

I remember the Christmas Party Johnnie and Mike hosted in their home for Timepiece. Johnnie was a gracious hostess and a special lady. My heart goes out to the family.

Johnnie and I became instant friends at GTCC and had a hilarious time all 30+ years,
including after retirement. We saw each others children grow up and out, shared the
good times and not so good ones. God saw her way was getting harder and in his tender
mercy, came back and plucked his "Rose." We had so many happy times together!!
She is gone from this earth --- Gone, but, never forgotten. Rest in Peace Dear One! We Loved You But, God Loved You Best!

Johnnie was a beautiful soul. Besides my cohort at work, she became a dear friend. My heart is heavy, yet my memories of her are light. I loved her dearly. Her life was full and I always told her that I wanted to grow up and be like her. Take solace in the memories as she loved her family with her whole heart. Let Psalm 23 comfort you.

I only met Johnnie a few times but her husband Mike and I have been friends for years. The times I met Johnnie she was extremely gracious and enjoyable to talk with. She always seemed to smile and enjoyed life in general. Whenever Mike and I got together he always talked about Johnnie and what a wonderful person she was. I know he loved her dearly and my heart goes out to him for this tremendous loss. I will continue to keep Mike in my prayers knowing that our heavenly father will continue to watch over him and he will be having Johnnie join in with the other Angels. Take comfort Mike in knowing that she is no longer in any pain or discomfort. God is now holding her hand.
