Sweet Papa ~ your pretty blue eyes and your beautiful smile will be missed more than I can put into words. You were one of the kindest, most genuine human beings that I was blessed to have in my life. I felt like a better person just being in your presence. I will miss our Sunday dinners and watching Duke basketball games together. I will never forget you ... and I miss you terribly but feel a sense of peace and happiness knowing that you are no longer suffering and you are once again reunited with Nanny and Johnny... heaven (and earth) has gained another angel. I love you, Papa.

We enjoyed “Papa” so much over the years as June has included us as part of her family since we moved to Durham. We had such an enjoyable time together with Papa, whether it was watching Duke Basketball or sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner. The unforgettable Nannie’s persimmon pie to Papa’s stories of some older days we grew to love them both as family. After Edith’s passing and Papa moved to Durham one of our greatest adventures was taking the big Class A RV to the outer banks and seeing how Papa loved the big windows and being up high so he could see for miles. We will always remember his sweet hugs and that contagious smile. He is truly the most genuine, sweetest and lovable man that we have ever known. We are going to miss him terribly. He was a man of many talents but mostly a true spirit with the purest of hearts. Thank you June for sharing such a treasure with us. Papa we love you!

I remember meeting Papa a little over a year ago. Upon meeting him, I noticed the sweetest and most genuine beautiful smile I've ever seen. It was obvious he had a gentle soul full of love and care for each person he met. No one was a stranger to him in his heart. June, you were blessed with a loving father and he a caring and loving daughter. You and your family will continue to be in my prayers and on my heart for comfort and peace. Sincere love and hugs to each of you during this difficult time.

Papa would sing to Kenneth whenever he started fussing. We're glad Kenneth got to know his great-grandfather. We love you and will miss you.

I remember the songs and stories from Papa’s life that he would share with us all. I remember being held by Papa when I was little and how safe that made me feel. We love you. You will be missed, Papa.
