Jorge was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba on August 2, 1940, to the late Jorge E. and Amalia Dancausse. As a boy, he loved to catch birds, play baseball, and dreamed of one day becoming a doctor. In 1964 he left Cuba, after the revolution when Castro took power, immigrating to the United States to provide a better life for his family. Jorge worked for Lorillard Tobacco Company for 38 years, starting as a janitor and working his way up to Production Supervisor. Jorge was always thinking of others. He would save money to send to his family who were still in Cuba and helped both family and friends immigrate to the United States. He even sent money he had saved for a beach trailer to help fund the Mariel Boatlift. Jorge will always be remembered as a humble soul who would always seek opportunities to help others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, telling jokes and whistling, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 65 years, Emerita “Nena”; his children, Edward (Donna), Luis (Margaret), and Laura (Manuel); brothers, Jesus Dancausse (Maggie) and Luis Dancausse (Diane); grandchildren, Sarah, Mason, Catherine, Anne, Grace, and Alejandro; and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Beacon Place for their comfort and care during Jorge’s final days.
Memorial contributions, in Jorge’s memory, may be made to Beacon Place, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
