A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 1:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel by Rev. Nathan Harris.
Benny was born December 17, 1932 in Greensboro, the son of Arthur and Freda Robbins Burton.
Benny was employed by Cone Mills as a manager in the finishing department for 52 years, starting when he was 16. He was a member of Newlyn St. United Methodist Church where he was a deacon and could be seen making apple pies for the Saturday hot dog lunches. Benny enjoyed spending time at their Oak Island beach house, golfing and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, giving and honorable soul to those he came in contact with. He will be missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Becky; son, Tony Burton (Jan Martin) of Cynthiana, KY; daughter, Robin George (David) of Julian; sisters, Betty Bluster (Jackie) of Duluth, GA and Barbara Brady (Mutt) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Burton, Timothy and Taylor Reece, Annie George, and their families; 4 great grandchildren.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Benny’s name be made to Newlyn St. United Methodist Church, 212 E. Newlyn St., Greensboro, NC 27408.
