

Joseph Charles Tracey, 84, passed away April 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at his residence. A Mass of Christian burial officiated by Reverend Eric Kowalski will be at 11 AM, Monday, April 11 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro. Interment will be at a later date at the Columbarium at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Chapel on N. Elm St. from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:15 PM.
Joe was born in Los Angeles, CA to the late Matthew Francis and Gladys Eaton Tracey. Following his graduation from Van Nuys High School, Joe served honorably in the US Air Force. He then ventured cross-country to attend NYU Stern School of Business where he earned his BS and MBA. Joe met the love of his life Loretta and they married in 1954. His nearly 40 year career with Western Electric relocated the family from Long Island to Greensboro in 1975.
Joe’s children remember him as a generous, loving, and dedicated father. He loved taking his family to the beach, and he and Loretta enjoyed years of traveling together. An avid athlete, Joe enjoyed golf and continued to play twice weekly with his close golfing buddies. For more than 40 years, Joe was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and served in various ministries, most recently as a Lector. He was a member for 38 years of the Knights of Columbus (Council 939) and achieved the rank of 4th Degree. Joe was a member of AARP and served a term as President of the local chapter. He also served as a President of the Greensboro Italian American Club where he was a member for 40 years. In addition, Joe enjoyed membership with the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
His surviving family includes his wife Loretta of the home; children and their spouses, Diane T. Adams of Charlotte, Patti Tracey (Chris Hudson) of Charlotte, Joseph C. Tracey Jr. (Sara) of Greensboro, Stephen Tracey (Sue) of Apex, and Denise Tracey of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jason R. Adams, Drew and McKenzie Hudson, Joseph III and Matthew Tracey (and their mother Beth), Emily, Michael, and David Tracey, great grandson, Jason R. Adams, Jr.; sister, Mahlon Lawson (Dick) of Los Angeles, CA; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Bill, Dan, John, and Patrick.
