Born on July 29, 1936, she was the only daughter and youngest of three children born to Nora Lee Haney and C. Bright Sells. She grew up on the family farm in Monroe, North Carolina and attended Unionville High School. In the eighth grade, Juanita met the love of her life, Kenneth Price, on the bus after school one day. They were married days after her eighteenth birthday in the front room of her parent’s home. For nearly three decades, they worked side-by-side at their successful family business, Price Machine and Fabrication, Inc. Ken and Juanita celebrated 58 years of marriage before his death in 2013. Juanita missed him terribly since his death.
Juanita is survived by her beloved daughter, Mitzi Price Lorenz (Pete); brothers, Blair Sells of Hartsville, SC and Rommie Sells of Monroe, NC; three grandchildren, Cameron Pinnix, Courtney Shaffer (Greg), and Vincent Lorenz; and three great-grandsons, Ryder, Graham, and Everett. She is also a beloved Aunt Juanita to her nieces and their families – Rebecca, Connie, Kenzia, Jackie Laurie, and Crystal. Juanita loved her family fiercely and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life.
Juanita was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, singing in the choir and serving in many roles – teaching GAs, Acteens, and keeping the nursery. She enjoyed being a member at Westover Church since 2008 where they have lovingly ministered to her as both a widow and a shut-in. The family is deeply appreciative of their great love and kindness to her these past several years.
Although she dealt with a number of health issues in recent years, including breast cancer and congestive heart failure, her family chooses to remember her as the vivacious, loving Mom, Grandma, and GiGi that she was. She loved basketball, the Grand Ole Opry, and traveling with her “Kemp” and circle of dear friends (especially to Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg). Her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Juanita will be laid to rest at Guilford Memorial Park on Friday, February 28th, 2020. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm on Friday and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
