Judith Lynne Underkoffler

Judie was born in Pottsville, PA to her parents Mary and Lloyd Underkoffler. She attended schools in Schuylkill Haven, PA. She went on to further her education at Lankenau School of Nursing in Philadelphia PA. After becoming an RN she continued her nursing education at UNC in Chapel Hill NC, receiving her BS in nursing.

She worked in Greensboro with Guilford County public health for many years. Later she became a nurse practitioner and taught courses educating other NC nurses in advanced care of high-risk obstetrical patients in the public health setting.

Judie loved dogs and rescued and raised many throughout her lifetime. She volunteered for years with several pet rescue organizations in Greensboro and High Point. It was her job to review, evaluate, and recommend or deny applications for pet adoption. She always wanted the best forever homes for these rescued dogs.

Judie passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Gray Brier Nursing home and Rehabilitation Center after a prolonged illness.

The family would like to thank Christy Moran for her many hours providing transportation to medical appointments. We would also like to thank the staff at Abbotswood Senior Living in Greensboro, Brookdale Assisted Living, Skeet Club High Point, and the Gray Brier Nursing Facility in Archdale, NC for their care for Judie over the past five years.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Johnson of Durham, NC, her nephew, John B Cake of Seattle, WA and her niece, Jessica Warren of Durham, NC and their families.
