

Julian Beattie Friday, Jr., son of the late Ruth Davidson Friday and Julian Beattie Friday of Charleston, South Carolina, died peacefully at his home in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 30, 2015.
Julian celebrated 87 years of wonderful life, enriching this world with his keen sense of humor, quit wit and caring presence to others. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Julian, often known as “J.B.,” spent his childhood and formative years in Charleston, South Carolina. Julian was very proud of his Lowcountry South Carolina heritage and loved to recount others with stories of hunting and fishing across the South Carolina Lowcountry. He spent the majority of his adult life in Greensboro, NC. Julian graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Chemistry in 1947. An avid Clemson Tigers fan and supporter, he received the Silver Tiger Award for longtime service and support of the Clemson Alumni Association.
His life was marked by numerous community service accomplishments and philanthropic involvements that include serving as a longtime member of the Board of Directors and Board President of the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. He was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army Greensboro, North Carolina Chapter and served as a Member of Board of Advisors of the Salvation Army for many years. His work with the Salvation Army also included serving as a member of the Capital Campaign Steering Committee for a new Emergency Assistance Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
An active Member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, North Carolina for more than 50 years, Julian Chaired the Church’s Finance Committee and served as an Elder of the Church for several decades. Julian was active in fundraising for First Presbyterian serving as a member of the Capital Campaign Steering Committee for several major gift campaigns. Additionally, Julian served as Founding Co-Chair for the Paisley Heritage Fellowship; the Church’s planned giving recognition society.
Julian is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, the late Eleanor Singletary Friday who died in 2007. He is survived by one son, J. Beattie Friday, III and nephews Joseph Payne, Jr. and Larry Payne along with niece, Pat Shroeder. Julian is also survived by devoted friend and companion, Nancy L. Hayes.
The Service of Internment will be held Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, North Carolina. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro.
The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service at the family residence in Greensboro.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Sadye Bowles Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, the Salvation Army, Greensboro Chapter or the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Bradshaw, Eoin Cullerin, Christine Miller, Mary Nance, Pamela Moore and Sakara Moye for their special, loving care and support of Julian over the past several months.
