

Funeral services will be held in the Colonial Mausoleum Chapel at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro on Monday July 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Paul Lowder officiating.
June and her husband were charter members of West Irving Park United Methodist Church in Greensboro.
Born in Richmond, VA on February 3, 1925 to Robert L. and Margaret Redford Alvis. June was employed by Atlantic Life Insurance Company and later by Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. She also worked for the Virginia Tech Agricultural Department in Blacksburg, VA. In 1957, June moved to Greensboro and was employed by Sellar’s department store in Burlington, NC.
June was an accomplished artist and painter. She joined the Greensboro Artists’ League and the Associated Artist League of Winston Salem. She studied under Magda Mater, Paul Bartlett, and Lois Griffell and exhibited her work in juried shows from 1962 through the nineties. Her paintings are featured in permanent collections including Weatherspoon Art on Paper, Northwestern Bank, Volvo Trucks, and other private collections.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Margaret Redford Alvis; by her sister, Dolores Alvis Harris of Denver, Colorado; by her brother-in-law, Stuart Harris of Denver, Colorado; by her husband, Bennie J. Butts of Greensboro, NC; and by daughter-in-law, Margo Butts.
She is survived by her brother, Wallace Alvis and wife, Grace of Norfolk, VA; by son John Stephen Butts and wife, Louise of Greensboro; by daughter Alison Cranford and husband, Cliff of Advance, NC; by grandson Steve Butts and wife, Heather of San Francisco, CA; by granddaughter Stephanie Ponder and husband, Demetrius of Greensboro; by granddaughter Randall H. Libin of Staunton, VA; by four great-grandchildren, Bene Daye and Levi Ponder of Greensboro; and Joey and Hannah Butts of San Francisco, CA along with five beloved nieces and nephews.
Also left to cherish her memory are friends and compassionate caregivers at Greensboro Place, who consistently offered support and comfort to June and her family.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm St.
