Karen Lindsay Shinn was born December 29, 1952 in Greenville, Tennessee. Karen spent her childhood years growing up in Greensboro, NC., where she graduated from Page High School (class of 1971), afterward attending Wingate College.
During her youth, Karen was a fun-loving girl who enjoyed music, especially the likes of the rock band Paul Revere and the Raiders and their front man Mark Lindsay. She grew up at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Greensboro of Christian faith. After college years she lived in the Concord/Charlotte area and in Myrtle Beach, where her brothers could go and visit her during the summers. For a while, she lived in Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Surfside Beach, SC with her long-time friend Don Galloway.
Karen settled later in Omaha, Nebraska for a number of years working for the Payflex Company, in the processing of payroll related information for many companies. After her time in Omaha, she got homesick and returned to North Carolina, living in the Browns Summit community with her two canine companions Bear and Lucy, where she continued her work remotely for a number of years. She retired in 2022 and remained in Browns Summit, purchasing a home there. She loved NASCAR, country music and her family greatly, and enjoyed needlepoint and cross-stitching, creating many colorful masterpieces for friends and family alike. She made beautiful blankets, socks, hats and other items for adults and babies of all ages. She kept a keen memory all her life, reciting obscure family connections and memories like they had just occurred very recently.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Firman Brooks Lindsay, Jr. and Mary Bethany (Betsy) Lindsay. She is survived by her brothers Mike Lindsay (Margarette), David Lindsay (Julie) and Bobby Lindsay (all of Greensboro), seven nieces and nephews, eight great nieces and nephews, and many wonderful cousins.
