He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Southern Hester, and three brothers, Louis Southern, Charles “Chuck” Southern and Robert Southern.
Wayne worked in sales of restaurant equipment and wholesale food until he found his true calling in real estate and building. He owned K. Wayne Southern Real Estate. He sold residential homes many years and then built and sold many other homes. He was a member of The Greensboro Builders and the Greensboro Realtors Associations.
Fraternally, he was Past Master of Revolution Masonic Lodge, Rose Chapter #178 Order of the Eastern Star, The Scottish Rite, The Greensboro Shrine and the Oasis Shrine Temple of Charlotte, NC. He has served in many capacities at WhiteStone, A Masonic and Eastern Star Community for many years, most recently, on the Board of Directors and the Long Range Planning Committee. One of his greatest satisfactions was helping with, visiting with and showing his love and concern to those who called WhiteStone home.
Most important to Wayne was his love for God, family and friends and the ability to serve his fellow man in whatever capacity God wanted him. Even in his sickness, he spent hours talking and counseling to those who needed his wisdom and strength. He made friends everywhere he went, including vacations times at the lake where many special memories were made with those he met.
