Larry Paul Bost, 75, of Greensboro, went to be with his LORD and Savior Sunday, November 26, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Lynne, his beloved wife of 53 years, was at his side, as were his two sons, daughter, and son-in-law.
Larry was born August 20, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Paul Lawrence Bost and Zoe Aileen Nuss Bost. He met his bride while attending Penn State University earning a degree in mechanical engineering. After college, Larry worked for Alcoa for many years forging lifelong friendships with his fellow coworkers. Larry’s career as a sales and marketing executive in the hardgoods industry took him to 8 different states across the country. Later in life, Larry and his wife owned and operated Budget Blinds in Greensboro.
Larry was the kind of man with whom it was a joy to share life. He loved being outdoors and filled his family’s life with adventure: exploring national parks, family vacations at Sunset Beach, backpacking through the wilderness, golfing, fly fishing and quail hunting. He loved long, prayer-filled walks with his wife and telling stories by the fire or at the dinner table. He also loved to work and had an amazing work ethic. His hands and mind could hardly be still: he loved to work around the house, fix things and read voraciously. He was a life-long learner in a myriad of subjects.
Larry’s gifts of encouragement, generosity and exhortation blessed everyone he knew. He could sense when someone was in need, and seeing a need, would move to action, whether that meant writing a thoughtful letter, initiating a talk over the phone or over a meal, or putting together the needed resources. Larry was sought out for advice and counsel by his children, their spouses, and countless others. Larry had a gift for friendship, and as one of his friends said: “Friends are not easy to find. Good friends are exceptional. Friends who are so dear, beloved and cherished to be considered family are rare indeed.” With the help of his wife, Larry also had a peculiar gift of hospitality: the Bost house was a warm and welcoming place to many a friend and stranger. Larry could talk with anyone and make them feel at ease. He also had a great sense of humor that seasoned nearly every conversation.
Jesus saved Larry later in life: he first put his faith in Christ in his 30’s through the influence of Christian coworkers and friends (Ken and Brenda Blevins) and the prayers of his mother-in-law (Ruth Ferguson) and grandmother (Eleanor Bost). Larry’s faith was authentic, and the faith of Larry and Lynne became the faith of their children. His love for the Lord and devotion to Christ was central to his life and heart. Larry continually sought the Lord in the Word, in prayer, and in Christian community. He was always a faithful member of a local church, and most recently was a member and servant at the Church of the Redeemer where the impact of his life has been truly great. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Sibley and sister-in-law Janet Weber. He is survived by his wife Lynne Bost; oldest son, Mike Bost (Michelle) of Boston, MA, daughter, Kelly Kaze (Chris) of Richmond, and youngest son, Tom Bost (Sarah Jane) of Clemmons, NC; siblings, Mike Bost of NJ, Don Bost (Carol) of PA, Ellen Potter (Mike) of OR, Jim Bost of CA; In-laws, Bob Weber (Rita) of NC, Rex Ferguson (Laurie) of NC, Ruthie Borrell (Jim) of NC; grandchildren, Jessica, Caleb, Ethan and Cooper Bost, Jackson, Katie-Zoe and Weston Kaze, and Paul, John and Patrick Bost… and many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends from all the different places he lived.
