Larry Robert Cox

Larry Robert Cox, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina. Born on June 8, 1950, in Thomasville, North Carolina, Larry lived a life rich with love, service, and kindness, despite years of medical challenges related to diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Larry was the beloved son of Lester and Aileen Cox, who predeceased him, along with his brothers Ronnie and Charles Cox, Son John H. Covington, sister-in-law Nancy Shaw, and brother-in-law Gordon Berrier. He is survived by his devoted wife together for over 50 years, Barbara "Babs" Cox, their son Justin Cox, daughter in law Joyce Covington, sister-in-law Lynn Berrier and Deloris Cox, and two adored grandchildren along with his niece and nephews who brought immense joy to his life.

Larry and Babs were married on January 28, 1978, in Greensboro, NC. Together, they built a beautiful family and a shared life filled with laughter and adventure. They raised two wonderful sons and cultivated a home brimming with love and warmth.

His life was marked by valor and dedication during his service in the US Army from 1967 to 1970, where he was part of the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Larry's bravery in the Vietnam War earned him numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

After his military service, Larry returned home and channeled his dedication into his career. He owned and operated a successful plumbing company, guiding its growth for over three decades before retiring in 2005. His work ethic and leadership left a lasting impression on all who worked with him.

Beyond his professional life, Larry was an active member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Greensboro, where he found a community that mirrored his own values of kindness and service.

Larry's passions were as diverse as they were profound. He was an avid fisherman, never missing an opportunity to cast a line, whether offshore or at a local pond. His hands were skilled in woodworking, and he was delighted in creating beautiful art projects and crafting furniture. Larry's laid-back attitude and infectious smile made him the life of any gathering, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome was a testament to his generous spirit.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held on August 7, 2026, at 11:00am with a visitation 1 hour prior in the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm chapel, located at 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived and a man who touched the hearts of many.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) in Larry's memory. They also wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many nurses and caregivers for their compassionate care.
