Laura was born in Greensboro, NC to the late William Brown Little and Grace Darling Dry Little. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School, Class of 1940. She graduated from Greensboro College with a BM in Music Education in 1944. She attended Interlochen Music Camp in 1944, where her love of music led her to Rochester, NY and study further at The Eastman School of Music from 1945-1946.
Laura served on the faculty at Tift College in Forsyth, GA from September, 1946 until May, 1947 and then on the faculty of Vassar Studios in Greensboro in the fall of 1947. She opened a private piano studio in her home and taught privately for over fifty years. She gave recitals in Rochester, NY, Forsyth, GA and Greensboro, NC.
Laura also played on bimonthly programs on early TV in Greensboro. She was a member of the Euterpe Women’s Chorus and she accompanied them for several years. She served as a judge for music festivals. Laura was a member Of Greensboro Piano Quartet. She played duet and two piano programs with Pat Copley and Caroline Lee.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a choir member, Circle leader, played hymns for various Sunday school classes from the age of eleven.
She was a member of several Bridge Clubs, including the competitive duplicate Bridge Club. She was most proud of her ability to do well at Bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John R. Truitt, and daughter, Laura Truitt Blair. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John E. Truitt of Greensboro; daughter, Teresa Truitt Brown of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Mark Andrew Brown, Amanda Gail Brown, Benjamin Paul Brown, and Wesley Grace Brown.
The memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401 on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David Partington officiating. The family will receive friends at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel on Sunday, July 1, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Music Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, North Carolina or the charity of their choice in memory of Laura G. Truitt.
