

A memorial service, celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 a.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401. The family will receive friends and loved ones immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Laurel was born on August 20, 1960, in Manhasset, New York, to the late Robert and Alice Thompson. She earned a degree in Computer Science and worked as an Human Relations Consultant, assisting companies with building required binders in compliance with Federal Law. Laurel was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by so many and will be missed by all who knew her. She loved visiting the Greensboro Science Center, (especially the tigers), was a big fan of nature and animals. Laurel enjoyed reading, listening to classic rock, coloring, puzzles, and watching true crime and television mysteries in general. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Laurel had a strong will and could be stubborn to a fault, but she was her daughter’s greatest advocate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Charlie” Hecker; brother, Doug Thompson, a nephew, Travis Dowling and Charles’s cousin, Bobby Cammarata, who she adored.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter and best friend, Jennifer Hecker; siblings, Ken Thompson, Lois Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Chris Thompson (Kim), Mark Thompson, and Alan Thompson; sisters-in-law, Janet Price, Joanne Christenson, and Maria Dowling (Adam); cousin, Joanne Bush (Byron); and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and other extended family and friends.
