Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Tate officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Lawrence will be laid to rest in Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.
Lawrence was born in Guilford County on September 6, 1951 to the late Lawrence Williams, Sr. and Addie Mae Tate Williams. He attended UCLA where he excelled in running track. In 1979 his relay team won the National Championship. Lawrence was inducted into the Greensboro Dudley Sports Hall of Fame. Sports and City Planning were major interest in Lawrence’s life and basketball was one of his favorites. During the years that he lived in Los Angeles, Lawrence mentored numerous young men from Greensboro who were able to obtain college degrees and achieve success in their future endeavors, whether it be in sports or business careers. He served in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Sergeant. For 23 years he worked for The L.A. Times Newspaper as an Advertising Composer. Lawrence was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers, Richard Williams and Gerald Chris Williams and other extended family.
