Lester Gabriel Nunn

Lester Gabriel Nunn, 89, passed away at Moses Cone Hospital on Friday, October 13, 2017. He was born in Stokes County, NC to the late Obert Lester Nunn and Ruby Simmons Nunn on March 30, 1928. Lester moved with his family to Greensboro during his teenage years.

He married the love of his life, Pauline Baughn Nunn, on June 3, 1950. She predeceased him in December 1997. He was drafted into the United States Army and fought in The Korean Conflict. (Dad always said it was more than a conflict, it was a war!) He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1953. Upon his return, he attended Guilford College. He worked the majority of his life in the insurance and security industries before retiring.

He and his young family attended Bessemer Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Lester and Pauline along with two of their sons moved their membership to First Baptist Church in the 1970s where he served as a greeter.

Lester was truly a giving, nurturing, and loving father to his three sons who survive him; Eddie Nunn (Debbie) of Greensboro, NC, Wayne Nunn of Midland City, AL, and Robert Nunn of Greensboro, NC; his only grandson, Michael Nunn of Rutland, VT; who was recently ordained as a (youth) minister and serves on the staff at Mission City Church, and sister, Martha Barham (Johnny). Additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Louanna Richards (Jack) and Nelda Bailey (Mack).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lester’s memory to First Baptist Church, 1000 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27401.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 17 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 18 2pm at First Baptist Church, 1000 West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. Burial will take place in Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, immediately following the service. Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel is assisting the Nunn family.
