Linda Kaye (Kay) Blackwelder, 71, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Friday June 24, 2022. She was born March 18, 1951 in Harnett County in the town of Erwin, the daughter of the late Johnny Richard Blackwelder, Sr. and Edna Lee Ryals Blackwelder.
Kay was a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro. She was a member of Guilford College United Methodist Church, where she had many treasured friends. Kay spent over 50 years working in the insurance industry, starting with Stainback Insurance Co. in downtown Greensboro in 1971, followed by Starling & Finn, Robins & Weill, and ending her career with Summit Insurance Agency. She was loved by her customers for her personal care and attention.
Kay loved her family and friends and was always there for one more hug, a big smile, and a love sign hand signal. She enjoyed photography – her license plate read Photonut. She had a love for anything sunflowers, Elvis, watching Hallmark movies and watching hummingbirds.
Surviving are two brothers, J. Richard Blackwelder, Jr. and wife Nancy of Greensboro, Robert L. Blackwelder and wife Gale of Ramseur, nieces, Lauren B. Matas (Matt), Natalie Blackwelder (fiancé Ben Wilson), Tabitha B. Gray (Westley), and Stephanie Blackwelder. A nephew, Bobby Blackwelder, great nephews, Sawyer and Hudson Matas, great niece, Isabelle Blackwelder, uncle, Donald Ray Ryals and wife Carol of Angier, NC, and many special cousins and friends. The family would like to thank special frieinds Charlene McGrady and Venessia Hayworth for all their care and assistance.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday July 7, 2022 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on the day of the service from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Officiating ministers will be the Rev. Susan Suarez-Webster and the Rev. Jeremy Troxler.
