Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Duncan Langworthy and Marion Smith Langworthy, of Westerly, RI. She is survived by her brother, Bobby Langworthy (Valerie) of Stonington, CT; her beloved nephews, Bob Langworthy (Mei-Ning) of Topsham, Maine, and Matt Langworthy of Wellington, New Zealand; six great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear friend of 50 years, Mia Johnson of Greensboro, NC.
Born in Providence, RI, on June 1st, 1953, Linda grew up in Westerly, RI. After high school, she graduated from Wheaton College (IL) in 1975. Soon after graduation, she relocated to North Carolina, where she lived the rest of her life. Linda worked for the NC Forestry Service and various construction/landscaping companies before joining the Guilford County Schools as a carpenter, retiring in 2018 after 16 years. As a woman who loved the outdoors as well as working with her very capable hands, Linda was a pioneer and role model for women working in nontraditional fields. She was a lifelong, passionate advocate for women to have the opportunity to successfully pursue working with the gifts God had given them with no societal barriers.
A Christian since childhood and a member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC, Linda was a strong woman of faith throughout her life, constantly seeking to grow in her understanding of God as well as her own responsibilities as a follower of Christ. She spent many happy summers on the staff at Camp Tapawingo near Speculator, NY. In her years there, she loved having the opportunity to work with young women and mentor them as a Christian leader. Many former campers have fond memories of Linda in her role as camp worship leader, joyfully sharing songs she had written on her 12-stringed guitar. She loved music and enjoyed serving on worship teams wherever she lived.
Throughout her life, Linda loved the outdoors. She looked forward to yearly trips to the North Carolina mountains and the coast with her closest friends. An avid photographer, she often shared beautiful photos of sunrises and sunsets, always pointing out that God was the most marvelous painter of all. Linda often camped with friends, with many happy moments spent by a lake and a fireside. A fierce competitor, she loved playing cards and other games with her many friends. Linda had the heart of a servant; many have shared multiple examples of how she used her skills to help them with home projects.
Linda was blessed with decades-long close friendships and the love of many of their children, to whom she was the beloved “Aunt Linda.” The lives of many were enriched by knowing Linda, and she will be deeply missed.
Many thanks and deep appreciation are extended to Dr. Peter Ennever and his caring staff. Much gratitude is also extended to Hospice Services of AuthoraCare for the exemplary care offered by Patty, Madera, Sasha, and others.
