Llewellyn Kay Perkins, 91, left this world for his Heavenly Home on April 3, 2021. He was born October 24, 1929, in Woodbury, NJ. His parents were Dr. Melvin A. Perkins and Edna L. Perkins of Wilmington, DE. In addition to his parents, Lew was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Carillo, HI.
Lew is survived by his wife Charlotte F. Perkins and two sons, Russell A. Perkins and Michael C. Perkins. He considered his marriage and family an answer to prayer and his most cherished blessing. He was a man of few words but his actions spoke volumes.
Lew was a Corporal in the Army and served as a medic. The military transported him to Japan shortly before the Korean War ended. Lew worked in the chemical and textile industries after earning a BS degree in Chemistry at Middlebury College, Vermont. He retired from the Sherwin-Williams Plant in Greensboro where he was Quality Control Manager. Earlier in his career, Lew applied for and was offered a position as Special Agent with the FBI. He turned down the offer because the training at Quantico required a long separation from his family.
Lew was a faithful member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. As a member of the Gideons NW Camp, he visited those in jail and participated in Bible Distributions.
There will be a memorial service at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, 5736 Inman Road, Greensboro, NC, on Thursday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International.
