Greensboro-Mrs. Louise Land Tucker, 100, was reunited with her husband, Howard, Saturday, February 21, 2015. She passed away at Ashton Place in McLeansville with niece, Nancy at her side. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 24 at Green Hill Cemetery.
Louise was one of three children born to the late U.T. and Lala Lowdermilk Land in Guilford County. She worked at the general store in White Oak for Cone Mills and retired from Dick’s Ice Cream Company as a bookkeeper. Louise’s primary focus in life was making sure her family was taken care of and she willingly and lovingly cared for many of them as they became older or ill. She shared 65 years of marriage with William Howard Tucker until his passing in 1993. For many years she was a member of Bessemer Methodist Church and served as pianist for all the services. Louise was an enthusiastic Bingo player and loved working word searches.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Underwood of Port St. Lucie, FL; grandson, Zack Lee Underwood, IV and wife Krista; great grandsons, Donald Zack Underwood and Edward Jace Underwood all of Sylacauga, AL; nephew, Eddie Land and wife Nancy of Browns Summit; nephew, Lynwood Peaslee and his son, Alan Peaslee both of Greensboro; and other extended family members. In addition to her husband she is also preceded in death by her brother, Cleo Land and sisters, Pauline Peaslee and Dorothy Land.
Her thirty year friendship with Barbara Eller and husband James was a true joy in Louise’s life. Barbara has indeed been a companion and caretaker. Barbara’s granddaughter, Cheyenne Foster, frequently visited and brought happiness and sunshine to Louise’s days.
The family would like to thank the staff of Ashton Place for their care, attention and compassion shown during Louise’s residency.
