Lucy Neal Brooks Harrell

Lucy Neal Brooks Harrell, 96, died peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2013 at Well Spring. She was born in Greensboro to Lucy Jones and Francis Arthur Brooks. She attended Hollins College and returned home to assist her father with the administration of Brooks Lumber Company.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Paul Hooker Harrell and son, Frank Brooks Harrell. She is survived by her sons, Paul Hooker Harrell, Jr. (Margaret) of Wilmington, DE, and Neal Brooks Harrell (Carolyn) of Chapel Hill, NC. Grandchildren are Neal Brooks Harrell, Jr. (Sara), Michael Polk Harrell (Jane), Jonathan Paul Harrell (Emily), Piper Brooks Harrell (Pete Goetz), and Amy Parrish; nine great-grandchildren; nephew F. A. Brooks, III (Jo) and niece, Joan Brooks Sullivan, along with their children and grandchildren.

Lucy Neal was a longtime volunteer with the Auxiliary at Cone Memorial Hospital, sustaining member of The Greensboro Junior League, and member of The Greensboro Country Club. She was a member of West Market St. United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she was a great support to her husband Paul in his many church activities.

The family would like recognize and thank the caring staff at Well Spring.

There will be a Family Committal Service followed by a Service of Remembrance at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at West Market Street Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Gathering Space.
