A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, with Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Simmons Center.
Bud was born May 22, 1935, to the late Doc Lacy Wallace and Gladys Arzella Wallace and was the last survivor of 11 children. He graduated from Huntington East High School and Huntington Business School. In 1954 he joined the Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany in the 354 Armored Division. When he returned home in 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Meredith Tudie Malcolm; they were married for 62 years.
He began working in the lumber business for Carolina Lumber as a stock boy. Then he was hired by Evans Products as an outside salesman. He traveled to Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky for 17 years, winning many awards.
When his oldest son started playing little league, he donated all of the material to build a concession building for League 5.
He joined the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1963, and helped to build many baseball fields, football fields, and soap box derby cars for the kids.
Bud was elected External Vice President of the Jaycees and was named “Key Man of the Year” 1964-1965. He was also a member of the WV Lumbermans Association. After being transferred to Greensboro by Merrill Lynch Lumber division, he worked for Sunset Lumber and then for ABW Lumber for 19 years. He retired and started his own wholesale lumber company, A Bud Wallace Corp.; which he retired from as well.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Meredith “Tudie” Wallace; sons, Mark Benett Wallace and wife, Beth, Stephen Brian Wallace; daughter, Stephanie Ann Cheek and husband, Scott; grandsons, Logan Mason, Stephen Wallace, Maddox Mason and granddaughter, McKenzie Cheek.
Bud loved the Lord and attended Mass on his lunch break hour at St. Benedicts every week day. He learned the Bible at his father’s knee and always prayed before school and at bed time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bud’s memory to Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, Building Fund, 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27408.
