

Luther Lindbergh Carver, 84 and a resident of Greensboro for 55 years, died in Shelbyville, Kentucky, Sunday at 1:37 A.M. He had been residing at the Shelbyville Masonic Home since late December, 2012.
He retired from Industrial Trucks Sales and Service in Greensboro in 1997 after over 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Born on May 23, 1928 in Durham, North Carolina, Luther lived there until he met and married the late Carrie Christine Cartwright of Limestone, Tennessee while she was attending nursing school in Durham.
He is a descendant of Richard Carver who was born in Norfolkshire, England in 1577 who immigrated and settled in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1637. Survivors include one son and one daughter: Larry Cartwright Carver of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Linda Carolyn Stewart of Shelbyville, Kentucky as well as his granddaughter, Kristy Stafford, and two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Kayley Stafford who reside in Tennessee. He is also survived by five step-grandsons, one step granddaughter and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends and family Friday, March 8 from 6-8 PM at Sedgefield Chapel of the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sedgefield Chapel.
