
Margaret Williams Brooks died October 30, 2017, at Well-Spring Retirement Community. Born on June 2, 1914, she had lived a good 103 years. A North Carolina native, Margaret was the daughter of Samuel Clay Williams and Lutelle Sherrill Williams. She grew up in Winston-Salem but had ties in Greensboro where she met her husband, the late Thornton H. Brooks. They were able to celebrate fifty years of marriage before his death in 1988.
Margaret was committed to her community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and belonged to a number of civic and cultural organizations, and she gave generously to the life of Greensboro.
Margaret is survived by her daughters: Phillis Brooks of Lexington, Massachusetts, and Jane Lybrook (Mrs. Douglas P.) of Atlanta; their children Sherrill (Onne Broek) and Will Lybrook (Lorie Lybrook); and five great grandchildren: William, Wyatt, and Wesley Lybrook and Oliver and Bella Broek.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thornton H. Brooks, and by her grandson Pen Lybrook.
There will be a memorial service Thursday morning, November 2, at 11:30 in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church with a reception following.
