Marie was the widow of Don Kelly Douglas, who predeceased her in 2022. They were married on May 13, 1977, and spent the next 45 years loving each other, and building a life centered around family, friends, faith, the Sedgefield community, Emerald Island, and UNC athletics, particularly football.
Marie was born on Dec. 5, 1950, in Asheboro, the daughter of Carl Lane Clark and Dorothy Mae Osborne. Marie went above and beyond in providing care for her mother during the later years of her life.
She and Don met while both working at Martin Marietta, and after an inauspicious first meeting, their quick romance led to being wed by a justice of the peace while traveling to Lumberton where Don was to play in a golf tournament.
In addition to Don and her parents, Marie was preceded in death by three sisters, Anne Clark Jones of Florida, Sue Bondurant of Greensboro, and Dee Speigle of Asheboro.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Kelly Douglas Beane and Kim Douglas Sorderquis; a sister, Kathleen C. Dalton; and several nephews, including Jim Dalton, who assisted Marie in her final weeks and was with her when she crossed over into the welcoming arms of Don.
Her ashes will be reunited with Don's at Guilford Memorial Mausoleum, where they will spend an eternity together.
Per Marie's wishes, there will be a visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on August 21, 2026, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 6000 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro. Marie had two demands, no speeches, and the celebration of her life lasts no more than two hours.
