Mark Thomas Whitley

Mark was born on December 26, 1963 , in Levittown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Page High School and then attended UNC-Greensboro where he received a degree in business. Mark was fortunate to be able to combine his favorite pastime and his career and worked in the bowling industry for 32 years. He enjoyed participating in bowling tournaments, and achieved several perfect 300 games. Mark was well respected and loved by both his coworkers and peers.

Mark was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a gentle soul that showed love and compassion to everyone he met. In addition to bowling, Mark treasured spending time with family and friends, and loved all kinds of music. Mark loved to travel and considered himself lucky to be able to visit places like the Caribbean, London, Germany, and Las Vegas. He thoroughly enjoyed family trips to the beach in both the summer and Christmas seasons. One of the most memorable trips he ever took was to France to retrace the steps his father took during World War II.

Mark was preceded in death and met at the gates of Heaven by his father, Hubert Whitley, mother, Ruby Whitley, brother, David Whitley, niece, Ashley Carroll, brother in law, Pat Carroll, and nephew, Zachary Whitley.

Mark is survived by his sisters, Kathy Carroll and Teresa Tindall (Ron), nieces, Dana Reece (Keith), Niki Landreth (Ed), Coty Rogers, and Cassidy Tindall as well as his nephew, DJ Whitley (Katie). He will also be missed by several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Place for their compassion and care during Mark’s final days.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 11 at 2:00 at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Service-Greensboro, 1900 Vanstory Street, Greensboro, NC 27403. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00-2:00.
