Mary Alice Parham Boles passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 4, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday,September 8, 2023 at Hanes -Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro, North Carolina. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. Rev. Larry E. Tucker will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 am.
Mary was born in Forsyth County on September 6, 1938 to the late James Elwood Parham and Martha Edwards Goode Parham. Mary married Robert E. Boles on November 7, 1959. She was a graduate of Walkertown High School, received her Registered Nurse training from City Hospital, and teaching certification from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mary was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in McLeansville, North Carolina.
Mary worked as a Surgical Nurse at Wesley Long Hospital and later transitioned to a teaching career at Western Guilford High school. She taught Health Occupations/ Medical careers for twenty-five years. After retiring from Guilford County Schools, Mary worked as a nurse and office manager at Piedmont Surgical Center.
Mary and her late husband, Bob, loved life at their second home at Belews Lake. It was there they found a passion for boating, skiing and the lake life. Many memories were made at Belews Lake with family and friends. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Boles and her brothers; Conrad Parham, Harold Parham, Richard Parham and sisters; Thelma Neal, Rachel Boyles, and Jeanette Spaugh. Mary is survived by two siblings, Alvin Parham of Clemmons, NC and Virginia Crews of Kernersville, NC. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Beverly Tucker (Larry) of Sunset Beach, NC, Jennifer Porter (Charles III) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Leah Pruitt (Caleb), Charles Porter IV (Thomas), Robert Porter (Emily), Stephen Porter and Rebecca Porter; great-grandchildren, Hadley Pruitt, Charlotte Porter, Evelyn Porter and Theodore Porter; and other extended family and friends.

Thank you to Hospice Nurse Debra Scales and all of the other Hospice Workers for the care and concern shown to our mother and our family during this difficult time. We also would like to thank Pennybyrn at Maryfield Skilled Nursing / Hayworth House for the excellent care they provided to our mother over the last four years.
