

Born in Greensboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Holly and Nell McKnight McNairy.
Lake graduated from Jamestown High School and attended the North Carolina College for Women in Guilford, NC. She married Alfred S. Bryson in 1947 and attended Hinshaw United Methodist Church for many years. Lake retired as a secretary at Sutton Woodworking Machine Co. and relocated to Simpsonville in 2003. Once in SC, she became a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church.
Lake was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and known for making sourdough bread. She was an excellent seamstress who could make and mend anything! Lake loved working outside and making beautiful baskets.
She is survived by her daughter, Malissia Godfrey (Al); five grandchildren, Mary Glenn Pembleton (Nate), Holly Steagall (Patrick), Sarah Hall (Jeff), Doc Godfrey (Megan), Will Godfrey (Lindsey); 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Andrew Steagall, Reid and Silas Pembleton, Lake and Mae Hall, Ansel, Greer, Roman, Sumner and Sully Godfrey; one brother, Holly McNairy; and one sister, Nell M. Bryson.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lake was preceded in death by one daughter, Brooks Glenn; and one sister, Sara Knight.
A very special thank you to the staff at The Legacy at Southpoint for loving and caring for my mom until the end. Thank you to Via Hospice for their care in her last days. God is good.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel located at 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
