On October 16, 2016, beloved daughter, cherished sister, and treasured aunt, Mary Doris Cobb passed away unexpectedly. Doris’ life will be celebrated at 2 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church with Reverends Jim Therrell and Bob Hawkins officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. Tonight the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM at the church.
Doris was born in Guilford County to the late Bittle Elwood and Daphne Roach Cobb. She graduated from McLeansville High School, attended UNG-G and was a valued employee at Blue Bell (now VF) where she worked as a secretary for 37 years. Doris’ family filled her with joy and she looked forward to gatherings with them. She and her siblings, Myron (who preceded her in death), Beverly C. Kinney of Gibsonville and Becky C. Yow of Greensboro were especially close. She adored her nieces and nephews, Joan McMahan of Greensboro, Meredith Biddy of Whitsett, Randy Yow of Greensboro and Stephen Kinney (Kim) of Pleasant Garden; great nieces, Patrice McMahan, Courtney Kinney and Kristin Kinney all of Greensboro; and great nephews, Dustin Biddy of Greensboro and Bryant Biddy of Whitsett. She will also be missed by her special friend, Sarah Sockwell.
As a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, Doris served others and the Lord through various roles and committees in the church including council member, assistant treasurer, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. Doris was very social and enjoyed bowling and participating in the Art of Living Club and Bessemer Woman’s Club where she held several positions through the years. Doris also worked with the Board of Elections and was the former Director of Communications for the Northern Conference of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ECLA) and was treasurer of the local ELCA.
Her home was adorned with her ever expanding assemblage of angels, Santas and various figurines. Doris loved to take day trips or travel to the beach with her siblings with a good romance novel packed away in her luggage. This caring and compassionate woman will be missed.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the church at 6015 Frieden Church Road, Gibsonville, NC 27249. Online condolences may be at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel is assisting the Cobb family.
