After a long, healthy and wonderful life, my Mother, Mary Bembry Holley, died peacefully on May 31, 2012. She ended her life while living in Forest, Virginia with her daughter, within 6 months of a fatal cancer diagnosis.
Mary was born in Edenton, North Carolina on June 22, 1922. She was educated in Edenton at St. John’s Episcopal School, and Edenton High School. She attended college in Raleigh North Carolina at St, Augustine’s College and in Greensboro at N.C. A&T State University.
During her lifetime, Mary was a dedicated member of Church of the
Redeemer, a parishioner of Rector Carlton Morales, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, a 35 plus year Greensboro City Schools employee, and sincere friend to many.
As I witnessed her peaceful ascension, I am certain that she is resting with loved ones who preceded her in death. She was married to Herman Welch Holley for 52 years, daughter forever of Thomas Jule Bembry, Sr. and Nellie Fleetwood Bembry, and sister to Thomas Jule Bembry II and Edward Bembry. She truly loved her grandson Geraud Holley Prescott. She was my mother and I was her daughter. She was my “whole card”.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 4, 2012 in the Mausoleum at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 prior to the service in the Mausoleum.
Please, in lieu of flowers, send donations in memory of Mary Holley to Seven Hills Hospice, 2250 Murrell Road, Building B, Unit 2, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501, the people who made her final days comfortable!
