She believed friends and family came first, the housework could wait. Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Nall Snipes will be remembered as a supportive wife and mother, fun loving grandmother, faithful friend, and friendly neighbor. She left the world a better place on Saturday, November 14 and is restored to perfect health.
Libby’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 18 at 1 PM during a graveside service at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel beginning at 11 AM prior to the service.
Her children recalled with laughter their mother’s zest for life and how she enjoyed the little moments that will make for great memories for years to come. She was a hard worker but when work was done she entertained friends and family on the front porch with a cup of coffee in hand either playing games with the grandchildren or enjoying the company and conversation of a neighbor. “Girl trips” to N. Myrtle beach, playing family Bingo and Christmas are special times her family will cherish. At the family Christmas party Libby was at the door greeting everyone with a sprig of mistletoe. She was a fabulous grandmother and often said what every grandchild wants to hear “You’re at Mammaw’s, you can do whatever you want.” In good times and bad she kept a positive outlook by saying “We’re making memories.” She was a faithful member of Bessemer Baptist Church for over 60 years and loved the Lord. Her kind and generous ways will be remembered by the people blessed enough to know her. Libby retired from Ciba-Geigy after more than 25 years of employment.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph “Jay” Snipes Jr. and wife Kathy of Greensboro and Marie Wade and husband Joseph “Bucky” of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Christy (Anthony) Blakely, Brian (Andrea) Snipes, Joseph Wade, and Daniel Wade; great grandchildren, Aidan, Evan and Hope; sister, Betty Jean Brewer of Burlington and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Samuel Willis and Emma Minor Nall, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph John Snipes, Sr.; three brothers, Garland, Howard and Billie; and three sisters, Ruth Geraldine and Marie.
Libby’s family would like to thank the staffs at Golden Living Starmount and Hospice of Greensboro for the exceptional care during her illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Resource Development, P.O. Box 241808, Charlotte, NC 28224-1808.
