

Mary JoAnn Kerr Vuncannon, 88, a former resident of Jamestown passed away on Sunday February 26, 2023 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point. She was born June 19, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Paul Gilmore and Mazie Speegle Kerr.
JoAnn was a graduate of High Point High School and Brice Commercial College. She was a model in her younger years. She also worked as a project assistant at the Center for Creative Leadership. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother to five children, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Greensboro, where she served as President and Vice President of the United Methodist Women, Circle Chairman, Membership Chair, Chairman of Council of Ministries, Sunday School Teacher and member of the church choir.
She loved to read, crochet, paint and sing in the church choir. She was dedicated to helping others in need and visiting members of the church who were in their homes, hospitals, and/or skilled care facilities.
JoAnn was married for 62 years to Floyd Darrell Vuncannon who preceded her in death on March 19, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Douglas Kerr, a daughter, Mary Ann Vuncannon and a grandson, Colin Burnette.
She is survived by her children, Vicky Floss (Randy) of Oak Ridge, Michael Vuncannon of Greensboro, Sandy Manuel (Steve) of Tampa, FL, Cheryl Burnette (Scott) of Jamestown, Patti Bare (Michael) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Maggie, Mike (Monisha), Branden, Taylor (Robert), Cydney (Bryant), Madison, Hannah, Jordan, Cameron and great grandchildren, Ian, Sophie, Emmie, Ben, Jack, Brooklyn and Everleigh.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care of their mother by the Hughes House staff at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. They would also like to thank AuthoraCare Hospice for their support.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday March 4, 2023 at St. John’s United Methodist Church 1304 Merritt Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
