Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Asheboro.
Mrs. Reynolds was born February 5, 1919, to the late Willie Morton Green and Vera Pennington Green, Mrs. Reynolds was a graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Meredith College. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mattie had a thirst for knowledge and participated in a five year Bible study to learn as much as she could about the Bible. Mattie retired as an Optical Technician, which was quite an accomplishment as that was a “man’s” job, but during World War II, Mattie was given her chance to prove that she could get the job done. Needless to say, no one replaced her when the war was over. She was an avid reader and followed the stock market faithfully. Mattie was a caring and charitable lady who reached out to those in need. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband John G. “Jack” Reynolds; a sister, Annie Land; and two brothers, Cuyler Green and W.M. Green, II.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Josephine Harper of Florida; brother, Noah Jefferson Green (Teresa) of Georgia; and 11 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church 438 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401.
