Maxine Highfill Blackwood

Maxine Highfill Blackwood, age 98, of Greensboro, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Maxine was born to the late Knox L. and Rosa Case Highfill. A lifelong resident of Guilford County and graduating from Guilford High school and attended Greensboro College, worked for Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance and many years was Secretary and Bookkeeper for New Garden Friends Meeting and also worked at Muir’s Chapel Christian School.

Maxine was a lifetime member of Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church, member of the Aldersgate Class, United Methodist Women and on several committees during the years. She loved to travel, garden and work jigsaw puzzles. A member, until retiring of PATH (Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers) in trail maintenance.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold L. Blackwood, her parents and her sister Estelle Ballinger. Those left to cherish her memory include sons; Larry (Susan) Blackwood, John (Cindy) Blackwood, Thomas (Ruth) Blackwood, grandchildren; Tony Blackwood, Steve (Karen) Blackwood, Carter Blackwood, Victoria Blackwood, Eric Blackwood, Kristen Blackwood, Mikaela Blackwood; great-grandchildren Zoey and Bradley Blackwood; sisters Hollyce (Marvin) Kirkland and Edith H. Brown.
