Maxine will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery on November 8th, at 2:00 p.m. next to her beloved John.
She spent her childhood in Somerset, PA, returning to Greensboro in 1942. Maxine worked at ORD during WWII with her future sisters-in-law, who ultimately introduced her to the love of her life, the late John A. Huffines, in 1946. They were married within three months of meeting and spent 32 wonderful years together prior to John’s death in 1978.
She later married Carlos Boots Heath of Greensboro, who also predeceases her. Maxine and John produced three children who survive her: Ellen Locke (Dave), Philip Huffines (Maria), and Deborah Walker (Lon). She was “NaNa” to her four grandchildren: David Locke, Jr., Susan Rector, Amy Forrester and Daphne Gunnerson and one step-grandchild, Jody Walker; all of whom she adored. She also greatly loved her six great grandchildren; Jordan, Morgan and Peyton Locke, Marley and Delia Forrester and Laura Gunnerson. The grandchildren will always remember her as always perfectly put-together, with perfect makeup and not a hair out of place – no matter what the situation! She will be missed dearly by us all.
The family wishes to extend their profound gratitude to WhiteStone and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. They were so giving of their time, caring assistance and support during her extended illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405.
