Michael Lynn Freeman, aged 71, a resident of Jamestown, NC, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1955 in Greensboro, NC, the son of Lawson Melvin and Bettie Jane Patrick Freeman.
He was a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School. He attended Wake Forest University and later the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A veteran, Mike served in the U.S. Army, primarily in Germany. He was a religious scholar, and penned many thoughtful and well-researched treatises over the years. A very intelligent man, he loved to turn a phrase to make a clever joke. He was dependable, gentle and kind, and cared for his elderly mother many years, allowing her to stay in the home she loved.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving is his mother, Bettie Freeman of Jamestown, NC, his sister, Kathryn Richard, and husband John of Atlanta, GA, his brother, Chris Freeman, and wife Michele of Thomasville, NC and four nieces and nephews: Alex Richard of New York, NY; Sarah Richard of San Francisco, CA; James Richard of Atlanta, GA; and Laura Richard of Seattle, WA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday October 3, 2026 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jay Lambeth of St. Paul Presbyterian Church.
